Drought help is being prolonged into the North Island by the federal government as farmers wrestle with dry circumstances.
Northland, Taranaki, Horizons and Better Wellington areas together with the Wairarapa be part of parts of the South Island now in drought.
The drought declaration unlocks tax reduction for farmers and as much as $80,000 for rural help trusts within the affected areas.
Minister for Rural Communities Mark Patterson stated some farm dams have been beginning to dry up and winter supplementary feed was already being fed to livestock.
“The Ministry for Main Industries (MPI) has been working with sector teams, regional our bodies, and farmers to organize for El Niño since its arrival final 12 months and proceed to observe the state of affairs to find out the place further help is required.
